Assignments of the players in the 1886 Oshkosh Team Photo

At the beginning of August, the Oshkosh club got new uniforms. According to the Oshkosh Northwestern, the uniforms were "old gold and blue." One possibility is that this photo was taken to show off the new uniforms, first used in the game on August 2, 1886. Given when Krock and Burns joined the club (by mid-August), this would put the photo sometime towards the end of August. Frank Bishop was witht he club all season, until mid-September. He is sure to be in the photo. Bart Duane was with the club intermittantly during the season, until he was released on September 7. He is probably also in the photo. That leaves three possible players for the remaining unmatched player - Ed McKenna, John Green, and James Gallagher. Based on the appearance of Burns, that would suggest that Green and McKenna would not be in the photo. (In fact, on August 21, the Oshosh Northwestern reported that Green "disappeared so suddenly", and reported that Burns and Gallagher replaced Green and McKenna.) So Gallagher is likely the third player.

Charlie Chase was the son-in-law of the club owner, Edgar Sawyer. Chase may have played in one game after Harrington, Rooks and Van Dyke left the club, and before replacements were signed.

Ingraham could be the previous person, but this is considered the more likely match.
