Played in double header in Kansas City as fill-in. Bernard was "a local amateur" according to the Chicago Tribune (October 8, 1888). The Kansas City Star reported Bernard was a local who "was dead broke, and was playing for $5 to get something to eat with" (October 8, 1888).

Chicago Position: ss Did not play in official game | The Chicago Inter Ocean reported on March 4, 1888, "Charles Boyd, of Sheffield, Ill, has been signed by the Chicago Maroons to play short stop. He is large and heavy, and is a sprinter and batsman." His last mention in the Chicago papers was April 11, 1888 in the Chicago Daily News. Boyd later briefly played for Danville in 1888 (St. Louis Globe-Democrat, June 10, 1888, pg 10). The identification as "Charles" in the Chicago papers is incorrect.

"Corkhill, a CB&Q Brakeman and a good ball player was put in his [Keogan's] place" per the Morning Democrat (Davenport) on September 14, 1888. Keogan suffered a head wound when he was hit in the head by a foot. Corkhill played for Hutchinson earlier in the season, and signed with Rock Island (IL) after being released by Hutchinson.

Filled in for one game in St. Paul. Came from the Iowa League, according to the Chicago Tribune (September 16, 1888). Crawford appears in the box score playing left field and catching for St. Paul in an exhibition game against a group of local amateurs (St. Paul Globe, September 3, 1888). It does not seem likely that this was George Crawford, as identified at Baseball-Reference.
