The Globe-Democrat reported that William Bohn, of Cleveland, arrived in St. Louis on April 26, 1876 (pg. 4) to play with the Reds. The described him as "an effective pitcher and crack in-fielder." He appeared in at least two games on the trip through Memphis, Covington and Louisville in May, 1876 playing second base, but does not seem to have returned to St. Louis with the club. By June 1, he had signed with the Aetnas of Detroit. Billy never made the majors, but his brother, Charlie, played two games with Louisville in 1882. In 1883, Billy was hired as a fill-in umpire for a game between Cleveland and Providence in Cleveland, but the game was called after just a few innings because of rain (Cleveland Leader, July 28, 1883, pg. 3).
